Why Do I Need Vitamins?
By: Alecia Chrin, CEO
Since I was young, my mother dragged me down to the local all natural store to get any host of vitamins to fix any ailment I had. I never was really into it. As I got older, she got better grades of vitamins, and I just used to call her up when anyone in my family got ill. I guess I always had some sort of knowledge of vitamins and how they benefit your life. I hate pills though, and was not one of those take-vitamins-everyday types. Yet, that became a big problem as I got older. I didn't realize that at the young age of 28, I was going on a journey that would eventually lead me right back to the beginning.
I am definitely a workaholic. Unfortunately, I am also a spendaholic. So, I work to shop. Yes, that is me. Being a workaholic has some serious side effects. For years, I ate when I wasn't engrossed in work, or my body was right on the edge of passing out. I thought this was a good thing, since I always struggled with my weight. When I turned 28, things changed. I was no longer able to just starve myself to get the weight off. That little habit no longer worked. In addition, I got into my first long term committed relationship, so I didn't realize the effects of cooking for someone everyday. At first, it was kinda interesting, but that started to dwindle quick. To get out of cooking, I would take the family to the best restaurants, just so I didn't have to cook. I stayed constantly tired, and I started to have other difficulties as well. By the time I turned 31, I had a real problem on my hands. I couldn't go to the bathroom regularly, my 5'1" frame was struggling with a 220lb body, and i had just resolved myself to being fat. I had previously tried every diet in the book, and nothing worked. On Oct. 23, 2008, a co-worker handed me 7 pills that changed everything. Those 7 pills and 2.5 bottles later, I went from 220 lbs to 135 lbs, and never felt better in my life! I changed my wardrobe 3 times (out of necessity), and I also had more energy than I ever had in my life! It wasn't that caffeine induced energy that you get from caffeine or energy drinks, just flat out natural energy. I loved it! Still do. I didn't get sick the entire winter I was on the pills, and I noticed my allergies went away. I was taking an all natural herbal supplement called Zi Xiu Tang Face and Beauty Capsules, and started selling them. I went from working 60 hours a week for my employer to working 90 hours a week (60 for employer, 30 for me), and then I realized enough was enough. I went into business for myself, and I never looked back. (Though I must say I really liked my previous job.) Yet, one of the biggest pluses to losing all the weight I did was the renewed effort to deal with my health issues through vitamins, instead of running to the doctor for a prescription. I noticed that when I used vitamins to deal with my issues, they wouldn't have instant relief like taking Aleve, but I found a more permanent solution to my issue. I found myself feeling better about life. Gee, I wonder why.
One of the biggest problems Americans face is the lack of nutrients in our food. If a bag of chips costs $.99, then chances are that bag doesn't really have the same grade of products that might be in the bag for $3.50. Everything we do comes down to how much money do we save and what kind of deal can we get. We are constantly searching for ways to keep more money in our pockets, and less money to everyone else. It is not like I do not understand it, yet I worry about the overall implications. There are third world countries that have average life spans longer than ours. We have the greatest economy in the world, but not even close to the best health care in the world. We are constantly seeking to maximize our business and personal profit that we forget one major thing- to enjoy all that money, we need to be healthy. Unfortunately, we don't realize this until it is too late.
So what's the difference between vitamins and prescriptions? Well, prescriptions, while many are helpful, some offer some serious side effects that you have to question the logic behind what is released. Yet, we can change that reality simply by turning down a different path-the path to vitality through knowledge. We need to be able to be honest with ourselves and realize that knocking those vitamins out of your diet is one thing; that overall savings is a misjudged thing. Your vitamins might cost you $100.00/month, so if you take them out, it saves you $1,200.00 per year. Yet, your body is not getting the nutrients it needs. So, in turn, you get sicker and you need to be out of work more often. Now, with illness, time off work, copays and prescriptions, you know have an additional $6 - 20,000.00 in bills. Was that $1,200 really worth $6 = 20,000? Was it okay to you since the $6 - 20,000 is a delayed payment plan? These are questions that cannot be ignored. When you neglect your body, it gets progressively worse. Yet, when you take care of your body, it gets progressively better.
So, now through my experience, there are still times when I hate taking my vitamins. Some things never change. Yet, I realize that it important to remember without a body, I have no physical presence for the soul to resume living. So I continue forth with the vitamins, and take care of myself to the best of my ability. It has helped me quite well, and I look forward to more to come.
